1. Jalil and Hasan can do a piece of work in 20 days. If Hasan complete half of the work and later on Jalil joins him then the remaining work will complete in 45 days. Jalil is more efficient then Hasan so in how many days Hasan will complete the work if he works alone?

Solution:

LCM of 20 & 45 = 180

Lets assume total work = 180 units

Efficiency of J = x

Efficiency of J+H = 180/20 = 9 units

Efficiency of H = 9-x

ATQ, 90/(9-x) + 90/x = 45

=> (x+9-x)/(9x-x²) = 45/90

=> 9/(9x-x²) = 1/2

=> 9x-x²-18 = 0

=> x²-9x+18 = 0

=> x²-6x-3x+18 = 0

=> (x-6) (x-3) = 0

=> x = 6 or 3

As Jalil is More efficient than Hasan.

Efficiency of Jalil = 6

& Efficiency of Hasan = 9-6 = 3

Req. Time = 180/3 = 60 days [Answer]

2. Mr Shobuj and Mamun enter into a partnership investing 700 and 300 tk for one year. After one year they share one third of a profit equally as their effort in the business and rest of the profit they share as per their investment ratio. If Shobuj gets 800tk more than Mamun. So what will be the total profit made in that year?

Investment Ratio = 700:300 = 7:3

Profit received by Shabuj

= (1/3)×(1/2) + (2/3)×(7/10)

= 1/6 + 7/15 = 57/90 part

Profit received by Mamun

= (1/3)×(1/2) + (2/3)×(3/10)

= 1/6 + 1/5 = 11/30

Profit Ratio = 57/90 : 11/30

= 57 : 33

(57-33) i.e. 24 = 800

(57+33) i.e. 90 = 3000
